Taco Bell and Decentraland have teamed up for a first-of-its-kind contest. To explain, Taco Bell is offering US-based couples a chance to get married in the Decentraland metaverse. The contest for engaged couples will run from August 25 to September 6. Here’s all you need to know about the metaverse wedding from Taco Bell:
Taco Bell x Decentraland: About the metaverse wedding
Till September 6, couples can apply for an opportunity to win the metaverse wedding package from Taco Bell. For this, the brand has created a virtual replica of its Las Vegas Wedding Chapel and Cantina in Decentraland. The metaverse wedding will be completely personalised according to the lucky couple’s needs.
“We’re always looking for new ways to meet our fans where they already are and provide them with signature Taco Bell experiences… even when that’s in the metaverse,” said Sean Tresvant, Taco Bell’s Chief Brand Officer. “In the age of swiping for love, Taco Bell’s metaverse wedding will allow one couple to take part in the voyage of what may well be the next evolution of modern love – and we’re proud to be leading the charge.”
The metaverse wedding is slated to happen this fall. It will be complete with all the traditional wedding elements— music, first dance, food, toasts, exchange of vows and rings, and more. The couple’s invited guests will have exclusive access to the soiree. However, it will also be open to guests within Decentraland.

Virtual weddings are becoming popular
As metaverses become more popular, so are virtual weddings. For example, early this year, a couple from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu held a marriage reception in the metaverse. The Hogwarts-themed reception happened in partnership with TardiVerse Metaverse on the Polygon blockchain.
Some, like this Indian couple, have held a “blockchain” wedding with NFT vows and a digital priest. Along similar lines, a US couple exchanged NFT rings in a traditional Jewish ceremony last year. As metaverses become more mainstream, we can likely expect the virtual wedding trend to continue.
